DESCRIPTION:Come join the Skagit Marine Resources Committee and friends for a FREE\, fun\, family outing at our 21st annual Fidalgo Bay Day event on Saturday\, September 13\, 2025\, from 11:00am – 3:00pm at the Samish Indian Nation’s beautiful Fidalgo Bay Resort\, located at 4701 Fidalgo Bay road in Anacortes. \nThe event will kick off at 11:00am with a warm welcome by Carolyn Moulton\, Anacortes City Councilmember and Skagit MRC member\, and Coast Salish Elder Rosie Cayou James\, followed by a day filled with a variety of activities to help celebrate our local estuaries and their beauty\, history\, and wonderful marine life. \nTake part in our popular seining demonstration at 1:00pm with knowledgeable Samish Indian Nation staff and volunteers\, touch love marine critters in Shannon Point Marine Center’s undersea zoo\, get creative at the kid friendly craft tables\, play fun games\, win prizes\, and learn about local projects and volunteer opportunities at the many educational exhibits staffed by local agencies and organizations. Be sure to say hello to Corra\, the Heavy Metal Selkie – Mutiny Mermaid Pod on the beach\, and  learn some cool things about Corra’s underwater habitat beneath the Salish Sea.  And don’t forget to stop by the Friends of the Salish Sea booth to grab a Discovery Passport activity booklet for a chance to win prizes and enter the coloring contest for a chance to be on the cover of the 2026 Fidalgo Bay Day Discovery Passport booklet! \nIn addition to all the fun activities\, you can satisfy your appetite with a fabulous no-host traditional Coast Salish Salmon BBQ lunch! DESCRIPTION:San Juan Island: \nJoin the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST)\, and make a difference for the environment! \nCOASST participants collect monthly data on beached carcasses of marine birds to establish the pattern of bird mortality on North Pacific beaches. Data collected helps address important marine conservation issues. No prior scientific experience is needed!  Beach surveys are best when conducted in groups of 2 or more — so please come with a partner in mind or in tow!
