Bald Eagle #25-60: A Story of Hope and Perseverance

On May 28th, 2025, residents of San Juan Island saw a Bald Eagle in distress and jumped into action to help save it. They immediately transported the eagle to Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, where staff discovered he was infected with avian pox – a viral disease that is highly contagious to birds, and can be fatal if left untreated. Eagle #25-60 was placed in strict quarantine for just over 3 months, while the pox lesions healed and fell away.

Once healed, this patient was moved to an outdoor enclosure, providing him with space to re-adapt to the outdoors, perform natural behaviors and build his flight muscles – all while being monitored for recurrence of the pox virus. His final stop was our 140ft Eagle Flight Enclosure, where he was flight conditioned for three weeks

On November 19th, 176 days after his rescue, Bald Eagle #25-60 took flight over the open ocean once again. Click on the video below to see his full story, from rescue to release!
