Careers

Seasonal Wildlife
Technician

The Seasonal Wildlife Technician is crucial to our rehabilitation program, as they share the load with rehabilitation staff to provide husbandry and medical care for all patients, as well as supervise and train interns and volunteers. Other duties include communicating with the public, coordinating animal transport and driving the company vehicle to pick-up or release animals. The technician will occasionally be expected to operate independently during opening and closing shifts once the season picks up. The length of the term is 6 months, from April to September. On-site housing is provided, in a tiny house with its own bathroom and kitchen. Laundry facilities are available on-site in the Intern House. The technician will have access to company vehicles to run errands on the island, but a personal car is recommended.

Wildlife Intern

Interns at Wolf Hollow gain on-the-job training in skills required for a career in wildlife rehabilitation. They assist rehabilitation staff with diet preparation, feeding patients, cleaning enclosures, and medical treatments such as bandaging, wound care, and calculating and administering medications. We work closely with local veterinarians for major procedures, but we do not have a vet on staff and do most permitted medical treatments in-house. We do have a veterinary technician on-staff that allows us more flexibility with our medical treatments. Internship lengths include a 5 month, 4 month and two 3 month options, spanning from May to October. Housing is provided on-site, which includes laundry facilities. Interns will have access to company vehicles for running errands on the island, although a personal car is recommended.

Education & Research Intern

This internship allows for hands-on experience working alongside the Education & Research Manager on various components of our outreach program, and provides an opportunity to create or oversee ongoing research projects. Interns will gain experience and skills in science communication, interacting with the public, data collection, and networking with other local organizations to collaborate on projects. As an education & research intern, you will assist with an array of programs including, but not limited to:

  • Design and production of educational materials
  • Creation of social media and newsletter content
  • Educational presentations in a number or locations (WA State Parks, State Ferries, Fairs/Festivals, etc).
  • Maintenance/cataloguing of biological specimens
  • Compiling and analyzing intake data for ongoing research
  • Participation and oversight on upcoming community science projects regarding population counts and invasive species interactions
